The short answer
CloudConvert converts far more kinds of file than we do — documents, spreadsheets, ebooks, CAD — and has a proper API for automation. For images, video and audio, the difference is that CloudConvert uploads your file to its servers and we never do.
CloudConvert is one of the most capable converters on the web, and the breadth is genuine: it reaches into file types a browser has no way of opening. It is also built as a service, which means the file goes up, gets converted on their machines, and comes back down.
That architecture is the whole comparison. It is what lets CloudConvert convert a CAD drawing, and it is what means a photo you convert there exists, for a while, on a computer you do not control.

When CloudConvert is the better choice
- Documents, spreadsheets, ebooks, CAD and archive formats, none of which we touch
- A real REST API and integrations, if you are automating conversions from your own software
- Very large batch jobs where you would rather their servers did the work than your laptop
- OCR and other processing that needs more than a browser can reasonably run

The one difference that does not change
Every service on this page is built the same way: your file is uploaded, converted on their machines, and downloaded back. That is not a flaw — it is what lets them convert formats a browser cannot open, and run work a phone could not finish.
It does mean a copy of your file exists somewhere you do not control, for as long as their policy says. For a stock photo that is irrelevant. For a passport scan, a recording of a meeting, an unreleased edit or a photo of your children, it is the whole question.
There is no upload here — not a disabled one, not one behind a flag. The site is static files and none of them accept a file, which is why the claim can be checked rather than trusted: watch your own network panel stay empty while a file converts.

Is FixMyFiles a full CloudConvert alternative?
For images, video and audio, yes. For documents, ebooks, spreadsheets and CAD, no — we do not convert those at all, and CloudConvert is the better tool for them.
Does CloudConvert keep my files?
It holds them while converting and deletes them afterwards according to its own policy. That is normal for a server-side converter. The point of the comparison is that we have no equivalent step, because nothing is sent.
Which is faster?
For anything large, we usually are, because the upload is skipped entirely. For a small file on a fast connection with a busy local machine, a server can win.
