Why it doesn’t upload
The PDFs people edit are the ones that matter — a contract with a wrong date, a form with a typo, a letter that needs a signature. Online editors upload them to their servers to edit; this one edits them in your browser tab, so the document never leaves your device.

- Edit text changes what a line says by covering it with the paper’s color and writing the new words on top. The original words are still in the file underneath — to remove text for good, use Redact PDF.
- Text you add is real, selectable text in a standard font; it won’t match an unusual typeface in the original exactly.
- Lines that run sideways on a page can’t be edited in place; use whiteout and add text instead.
- A scanned PDF has no lines of text to click — everything on it is a picture. Whiteout and add text still work.
Under the hood
What happens to your file
pdf.js shows the page and the position of every line of text. An edited line is covered with a box in the paper’s color and the new words are drawn on top in an embedded Noto font, so they are real, selectable text; additions, highlights and drawings are written as PDF content too. The old words remain underneath the cover — the tool page says so, and Redact PDF is the way to remove them.

How can I edit a PDF for free without signing up?

Can I change the existing text in a PDF?
Yes — choose Edit text and click any line to rewrite it. The line is covered in the page’s own paper color and your words are written on top in a matching size and weight. The original words remain in the file underneath, so for anything that must be gone for good, use Redact PDF.
Is this PDF editor really free, with no watermark?
Yes. There is no paid tier, so there is nothing to upsell and no watermark on anything you save. It costs nothing to run because your own device does the editing.
Can I edit a PDF without Adobe Acrobat?
Yes. Everything here works in any current browser — Chrome, Safari, Edge or Firefox — on Windows, Mac, Linux, iPhone or Android, with nothing to install.
Can I add a signature?
You can draw one with Draw, or add a picture of your signature with Picture, and place it anywhere. That puts your signature on the page; it is not a certified digital signature with an audit trail.
Is my PDF uploaded to be edited?
No. The pages are rendered and edited inside this browser tab, and the edited PDF is built there too. You can switch off Wi-Fi once the page has loaded and it still works.
