How to put multiple pages per sheet in a PDF

  1. Add your PDF

    Drop the PDF — a slide deck, lecture notes, a long report.

  2. Check the settings

    Choose how many pages per sheet and the paper size. The sheet turns landscape or portrait to fit the pages best.

  3. Save the result

    Save and print. Every page is scaled down, not rasterised, so text stays sharp.

Why it doesn’t upload

Lecture notes and internal decks are exactly what you’d rather not upload to print. The rearranging happens in your browser.

Worth knowing

  • Links and form fields aren’t carried onto the new sheets.
  • At 9 or 16 per sheet, body text gets small — good for slide handouts, hard work for dense documents.
  • Pages are placed in reading order; rotate sideways pages first if the deck mixes orientations.

What happens to your file

Pages are embedded as form XObjects and drawn 2, 4, 6, 9 or 16 to a sheet, each scaled to its cell and turned upright if the source page had a /Rotate. The result is vector, like the original: zoom in and the text is as sharp as before.

Questions

How do I print 4 pages on one sheet of a PDF?

Choose 4 pages per sheet, pick your paper size and press Arrange pages, then print the result normally at 100%.

What is an N-up PDF?

A layout with N original pages on each printed sheet — 2-up, 4-up and so on. It’s the “pages per sheet” option in a printer dialog, saved into the file.

How do I print 2 pages per sheet on both sides?

Choose 2 pages per sheet and save. The sheets come out landscape, so in the print dialog choose double-sided printing that flips on the short edge, the usual setting for landscape pages. If the backs come out upside down, switch to the long edge.

Can I get rid of the margins?

Nearly all of them. Under Advanced, set the sheet margin to 0 mm and turn off the border: the pages then fill the sheet, with a gap of about a millimeter and a half between them. Most printers can’t print to the very edge of the paper, so a sliver may still be trimmed there.

Why not just use my printer’s pages-per-sheet setting?

You can. Doing it in the PDF means the layout travels with the file — for a print shop, a colleague or a phone with no such option.
