How to remove a password from a PDF free online

Why it doesn’t upload

  • Every kind of PDF encryption is supported, from old 40-bit RC4 to AES-256.
  • Digital signatures stop being valid once the file is changed — that’s how signatures are meant to work.
  • The unlocked file has no protection at all. Keep it somewhere private, or add a new password with the lock tool.

Can I unlock a PDF if I don’t know the password?

Yes. The password is used once, in your browser’s memory, to decrypt the file on your device. It’s never stored, logged or sent — there’s no server involved at all.

Why does my bank send password-protected PDFs?

So the statement can’t be read if the email goes astray. The password is usually printed in the email — often a date of birth or part of your account number.

Will removing the password change the PDF?

Only the encryption is removed. Pages, text, images, links, bookmarks and form fields are copied over unchanged.
