PDF to Word Converter — Free, No Watermark

A free PDF to Word converter with no watermark: you get an editable .docx, not a picture of the page — paragraphs that reflow, headings, bulleted and numbered lists, tables as tables, and the pictures in their place. Nothing is uploaded.

How to convert a PDF to an editable Word document, free

Your PDF goes into this browser tab, is rebuilt as a Word document on your device, and comes back as an editable DOCX. 0 bytes uploaded
  1. Add your PDFs

Drop the PDF — a report, a contract, a CV, an invoice.

  2. Check the settings

Choose whether to rebuild tables and keep pictures. Leave page breaks off if you plan to edit the text; turn them on to keep the page-for-page shape.

  3. Save the result

Press Convert to Word and open the .docx in Word, Pages, LibreOffice or Google Docs.

Why it doesn’t upload

People convert PDFs to Word to change them: an offer letter, a contract, a form, a CV. Those are exactly the documents you don’t want sitting on a conversion service’s server, so this one reads the file in your browser and never sends it.

Check it in your browser’s Network tab

Worth knowing

  • The text is rebuilt from where it sits on the page, because a PDF stores glyph positions rather than paragraphs. Plain, single-column documents come out closest to the original.
  • A scanned PDF holds no text to recover — only a picture of one. OCR, which adds a text layer, is in the next wave of tools.
  • Exact spacing, columns, headers and footers aren’t reproduced: the result is made to edit, not to be a facsimile.
  • Fonts are replaced with Calibri, at the sizes measured in the PDF, keeping bold, italic and monospace.

Under the hood

What happens to your file

A PDF has no paragraphs or tables, only characters at positions. pdf.js extracts them; lines and blocks are rebuilt from their spacing, headings from their size, tables from columns of text that line up, and pictures are kept in place. The result is written as a real Word document with flowing text rather than a text box per line.

Questions

How do I convert a PDF to Word for free without a watermark?

Drop the PDF here and press Convert to Word. The .docx that comes back has no watermark and no page limit, and nothing was uploaded to make it.

Will the tables come across as tables?

Yes, when the PDF’s columns are clear enough to find. Each row becomes a Word table row you can edit, and a row that wrapped onto two lines is put back together.

Can I convert a scanned PDF to Word?

Not yet in a useful way: a scan is a picture, so there is no text to move across. It needs OCR first, which is the next wave of tools here.

Why doesn’t the layout match exactly?

A PDF describes a fixed page; Word describes flowing text. Matching both at once means locking everything into text boxes, which is painful to edit. This keeps the content editable and accepts small layout differences.

How do I go back the other way?

Use Word to PDF, which keeps the headings, lists, tables and links.
