How to use the PDF to handwriting converter
-
Add your PDF: Pick a handwriting — one of five styles, or your own letters, drawn on screen or scanned from a sheet you fill in.
-
Check the settings: Add a PDF and choose: keep its design with only the text rewritten in place, or write it out on notebook paper. Or type or paste text instead.
-
Save the result: Set the ink, pen, slant and messiness, check the live preview, and download the handwritten PDF.
Why it doesn’t upload
The PDFs people turn into handwriting are their own notes, letters and assignments, and the letters they draw are their own handwriting. Generator sites upload both to render them. Here the PDF is read, the letters are kept and the pages are written in your browser tab.
Check it in your browser’s Network tabWorth knowing
- It looks handwritten; it isn’t a substitute where handwriting itself is the point — an exam, a handwritten-only assignment, a signed declaration.
- “Keep original design” rewrites the page’s text; words inside form fields and comments stay typed. A scanned PDF has no text to rewrite — make it searchable with OCR PDF first.
- The handwriting fonts cover English and most European languages; Greek, Cyrillic and Vietnamese fall back to a plain font, and Chinese, Japanese and Korean aren’t supported.
- Your own letters are kept in this browser only. Scanned letters are pictures, so the pen thickness setting changes drawn and font letters, not scanned ones.
Under the hood
What happens to your file
Letters come from a handwriting font, read with fontkit, or from your own — strokes drawn on the pad, or cut from a photo of the sheet after its four corner squares are found and the page is straightened. Each letter (each word, for joined-up scripts) gets a small seeded shift in size, angle and baseline, so the preview and the file match exactly. To keep the original design, every text instruction in the PDF is switched to invisible rendering mode 3 — the words stay in the file and searchable — and pdf.js gives each line’s position, size and width for the handwriting that replaces it; Auto ink reads each line’s color off the rendered page. The writing is saved as vector shapes with pdf-lib, each distinct letter stored once.

Why use a PDF to handwriting converter that keeps the layout?
Most handwriting generators take your words and pour them onto lined paper, so a worksheet, a letter or a set of slides loses everything that made it what it was. This PDF to handwriting converter can keep the page: pictures, tables, colors and spacing stay exactly where they were, and only the typed text is rewritten by hand, line by line, in the same place and size.
It can also write in your own hand. Draw each letter on screen, or print a sheet, fill it in and photograph it, and the converter uses your letters wherever you have them. The PDF is read and written in your browser tab, and the handwritten PDF keeps its words as invisible text, so it can still be searched.
What people convert from PDF to handwriting
-
Converting a PDF into handwritten notes
Lecture slides, a reading or a typed summary, rewritten as notes that look written in class — on notebook paper, or over the original pages.
-
Making a worksheet or letter look handwritten
Keep the original design and only the words change: a printed worksheet becomes one a teacher wrote out, a typed letter becomes a personal one.
-
Writing in your own handwriting
Draw or scan your letters once; every PDF after that is written in your hand, with any missing character borrowed from the font.
-
Text to handwriting for cards and journals
Type or paste text instead of adding a PDF, and get pages on ruled, plain, grid or legal-pad paper.
-
Handwritten pages for GoodNotes or Notability
Download the PDF and import it as a notebook; it takes pencil annotations like any other page.
Tips for handwriting that looks real
- Keep messiness between 30% and 60%: none looks like a font, too much looks rushed.
- Leave ink on Auto when keeping the original design — headings stay in their colors and body text in its own.
- A slant of a few degrees right reads as natural handwriting; most people lean a little.
- Shuffle writes the same text again with a different wobble, if one line came out awkwardly.
- Drawing your letters? Write them at your normal speed on the pad — careful letters look traced.
- Don’t use it where real handwriting is required, such as exams, assignments that must be handwritten, or declarations.
Questions
How do I convert a PDF to handwriting?
Add the PDF under Content, pick a handwriting, and choose Keep original design to rewrite its text in place or Notebook paper to write it out on fresh paper. Check the live preview, then press Download handwritten PDF. It’s free, with no sign-up and no watermark.
Can it write in my own handwriting?
Yes. Press Draw your letters and write each character on screen, or press Scan a sheet, print the sheet, write one character per box and photograph it. Your letters are used wherever you have them, and the chosen font fills in the rest. They’re saved in this browser for next time.
Does the handwritten PDF keep the original layout?
With Keep original design, yes: pictures, colors and backgrounds stay exactly as they were, and each line of text is rewritten by hand in the same place, at the same size and — with Auto ink — in the same color.
Is the handwritten PDF still searchable?
Yes. Over the original design, the PDF’s own text stays in the file as invisible text, the way an OCR layer is stored. On notebook paper, the words are added as invisible text along each line. Either way you can search and copy them.
Can I convert typed text to handwriting too?
Yes — choose Type or paste under Content and write or paste your text. It’s written out on ruled, plain, grid or legal-pad paper, as many pages as it needs.
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. The PDF is read, and the handwritten PDF is written, inside this browser tab. Nothing you add, type or draw is sent to a server.
