How does editing text in a PDF work?
PDFs aren’t word-processor files: every line of text is positioned on the page on its own. Editing covers the line you click in the paper’s color and writes your new text over it in a matching size, which is perfect for a wrong date, a typo or an old phone number. The original words stay in the file underneath — to take text out for good, redact it. For rewriting whole paragraphs, convert to Word, edit, and convert back.
Everything else here adds to the page or reads from it: signatures, form answers, page numbers and watermarks are drawn on top of the existing content and saved into the file, while the text tools read what is already there without changing it.
