Scroll to a different page and try another reader first. If pages render everywhere except one program, it is a rendering problem, not an empty document. If the pages are genuinely blank in every reader, they were blank when the file was made — usually separator sheets from a scanner.
1Try to select text on the blank pageDrag across it, or press Ctrl+A. If text highlights, the page is not empty — the reader is failing to draw it, and a different reader will show it.
2Open it in a browserChrome and Firefox render forms, transparency and layers differently from Acrobat. A page blank in one and correct in the other confirms a rendering problem.
3If it is a form, flatten itFlattening paints the field values into the page itself, so every reader draws them and nothing depends on stored appearances being honoured.
4If the blanks are real, delete themDuplex separator pages are genuinely empty. Delete PDF Pages removes them and leaves everything else, including the bookmarks pointing into the remaining pages.
5Check before you send it onReopen the saved file and scroll the whole document. A blank page that survives to a recipient looks like a missing page rather than a deliberate one.
Why does this happen?
The content is in form fields the reader will not draw. A filled form stores its values outside the page. A reader that ignores the stored appearances shows the template, or nothing at all.
The scanner inserted blank pages. Duplex scanning captures the back of every sheet, so a single-sided stack produces an alternating blank page throughout.
Transparency or layers the reader cannot handle. Files from design software use transparency groups and optional layers that older readers draw as white.
The page is white-on-white or hidden behind an image. Text set to white, or a full-page white image covering the content, renders as a blank page that still holds selectable text.
Rendering is still in progress. On a large scanned file over a slow connection, a reader shows white while it fetches and decodes each page image.
Questions
Why are there blank pages between every scanned page?
The scanner was set to double-sided and the originals were printed on one side, so it captured the back of each sheet. Deleting the even-numbered pages usually clears it in one pass.
My filled form prints blank. What is wrong?
The reader is printing the template and ignoring the field values. Flatten the document first — that writes the answers into the page, and anything that prints the page prints them.
The page looks blank but the text is selectable. What is going on?
The content is there and something is drawing over it or drawing it in white. It is a real disclosure risk: the text can be copied even though nobody can see it.
Does deleting blank pages change the rest of the document?
No. The remaining pages keep their content, order and size, and bookmarks pointing inside them still work.
